Old Business

  • Minutes of November 3, 2014 meeting were approved as read.
  • Christina Muccioli introduced herself and explained that the new Co-Chair committee of the

Lori Podvesker was unable to attend this meeting but would do so in the future.

  • Christina gave a brief history of the Manhattan DD Council and its mission. The Council web site address was provided to the attendees and she strongly urged membership to the Council and attendance to the Education/Children’s Committee.
  • She provided some event updates of the Council and strongly urged their attendance at the Legislative Breakfast held at Barnes & Noble in March at their Union Square location. She indicated that events and meetings of other committees are posted on the web site as well and on Facebook.
  • She addressed some of the issues facing preschools providers and families, transition to public school, and transition from school to the adult world.

Presentation:

  • Lisa Barzotto, a school psychologist presented a power point presentation: Meal time Behaviors in Autism Spectrum Disorders –The presentation was geared for parents and providers to improve the mealtime experience and make it less stressful for parents and teachers. Strategies and coping mechanisms, like Groden Relaxation techniques were provided as well. Her presentation was well received.
  • A question and answer period was provided.
  • Christina once again urged parents and caretakers to take an active role in their child’s education. A way they might consider is being active in the council, by attending council events and the Education/Children’s committee.
  • She informed the attendees that the next meeting will be in March Date to be announced.
