Presentation by AHRCNYC on the Melissa Riggio Higher Education Program:

AHRC’s Melissa Riggio Higher Education Program is an opportunity for young adults to participate in a college-based environment. It is a non-matriculated 3 year program and an Alumni program. The students enroll in college courses based on their areas of individual interests as well as participate in life-skills training. They will participate in a number of internships over the 3-year period and the goal is to transition into paid employment. Each student is paired with a peer mentor from the college who assists them during classes. Since they are enrolled in the college, they also have access to all campus facilities and clubs. Prospective students need to be OPWDD and Waiver eligible as the funding is Day Hab. This program is currently offered at 4 colleges in the city: Borough of Manhattan Community College, Hostos Community College, Kingsborough Community College and the College of Staten Island. It is limited to 5 new students per year at each school and there is an Application and Interview process. Please see the attached Application and Recommendation forms attached. For questions or further information the contact person is Nikki Spicer who can be reached at 347 359-3906 or via email at Nikki.Spicer@ahrcnyc.org
